Luke rides his bike
Last night, we were outside riding bikes and scooters in the driveway with a neighbor/friend and her son. Luke takes a break from riding to tell me that he wants me to take his training wheels off his bike. I kind of laughed and looked at my friend and told him he'd have to wait until daddy got home. He insisted that I take them off right then, but I explained that even if we did take off his training wheels, we would need both daddy and me there to help him learn. He accepted that answer and went back to riding his bike (with training wheels) and his scooter. He also spent some time on his friend's balance bike although he couldn't go very fast because it was set a little tall for him. Of course, after dinner that night he remembered and asked Will to take off his training wheels. Will tried to convince him that he could have fun on his bike with the training wheels (he's only 3 years and 3 months old, after all) but Luke would not be deterred. So, we all went outside, took the training wheels off Luke's bike, and started practicing. On a side note: John learned how to ride on this same bike only a year ago. He was almost 4 1/2 years old, and I thought THAT was young. John got a big (20") bike for his 5th birthday in September, and has great control of that bike. He was riding laps AROUND the house (in the grass and down the hills) as we were practicing with Luke. We had a pretty limited amount of time since it was already after dinner, but in that short time, Luke mastered riding-in-a-straight-line-between-parents. We of course captured it on a few videos. You can hear John ringing his bike bell in approval :)
